My First Real Post In A While...

Hello all! (all probably consists of like Sara and Jo)

As you can tell, I've kinda given up blogging on a daily basis. It's unfortunate because everyone back home can't keep up with everything I've been up to. I think it was Nat or Andrea who said that it was as though I never left because they could keep up with my life through my blog. Also, due to my short term memory, I probably can't remember what I've done and what needs to be done around the house without my daily blogging but alas! I'm way too lazy to blog everyday.

I can actually see myself changing, it's quite scary really. This semester it's like I'm a completely different person compared to last semester. Some changes are good and others are not so good. I think I've become a lot darker on the inside. All twisty and jumbled up.

A little shout out to my little sister. You're so beautiful and talented, everything I hope my daughter will be. It's killing me that I don't get to be there to watch you grow up but I hope you know that you are in my prayers every night. I love you very much because you are my baby sister and Jo can probably attest to that.

Nat sent me an email telling me that she had 47 pairs of shoes!
Kim: Nat has 47 pairs of shoes!
Sara: Are you sure you don't have more?
Kim: No way!
I thought about it a little and I think I have more than 60!!! 28 pairs in Melbourne and wayy more back home. I'm gonna count all my assets when I get back to Singapore and after I work out all the kinks.

The four walls. I've named them Aden, Bart, Cranberry and Dave. They're really not good company at all. I've lived in a house/apartment with people all my life, I've never been alone before this. Being alone is not a nice feeling. Mummy, Daddy, Rachel, Angelica, Nathania and at least one maid, if not two. They are always there, always at home but here, there is no one...just Aden, Bart, Cranberry, Dave and I. Coming home every night I get this awful feeling like a huge weight is being attached to my heart. It just sinks at the thought of those four walls...

I've been listening to this song by Rascal Flatts a lot lately. It's so touching I cry every time (yes, I know this sounds familiar).

THINGS THAT MATTER (part 2)

She’s held on to that grudge all her life
And thirty years of anger
Since her dad walked out that night
She thinks of all the moments that he's missed
All the birthdays ballets first dates
That seems too much to forgive
She gets that call that said he don’t have long
She walks in
He starts crying
The past is gone
Things that matter
Things that don’t

Time ain’t on our side
Don’t want to leave this world
With why didn’t I?
Why didn’t I?
Yeah why didn’t I?

England

Saturday 4 July 2009

It was off to London after breakfast. Mum and I met Uncle Domonic, Aunty Janice, Pricilla and Justin for lunch. Lunch was at this small restaurant in some small lane just behind Harrod’s. Sale e Pepe was the name. An Italian family run restaurant. They have unbelievably good food, so good that we went back for dinner.

Over lunch, Mum told Uncle Dom about the parking tickets she had gotten. Uncle Dom then told all of us about how ridiculous parking attendants are. Apparently they work on commission so the more fines they give, the more money they get. A tree had fallen over on top of a car that was parked in London. The whole roof of the car was smashed and the next day, the tree had still not been removed. That car was issued a parking ticket. Passers by were so amazed that they took photos of it and that’s how the newspapers got hold of it. An ambulance had puller over on the side of a road just in front of a house to pick up an emergency. When the medics came out of the house with the sick person, they found a parking ticket on their ambulance. What a joke!

As I was walking out of Harvey Nichols, this old lady was in front of me. On the other side of the door, this couple was entering Harvey Nichols. The guy was tall, tanned, with sun-streaked hair, dressed in a loose white linen shirt (one of those holiday shirts) and holding his girlfriend’s Gucci paper bag. He opened the door for his tall, tanned, gorgeous girlfriend then he said, “after you” to the old lady and I. OMG! All I could think of in my head was “one day, I’m gonna get me one of those!”.

We intended on driving to Short’s Gardens to get Daddy’s cheese but all the roads were closed so we headed back to Harrods. On our way back, we saw cars jammed head to head and people getting out of their cars screaming. Even the pedestrians got involved. Sara, remind me to tell you about this, it’s quite funny. We walked around Harrods for a while before meeting Aunty Kathleen, Sonia and Uncle Geoff for dinner. After walking around Harrods so much, I think I’m slightly more familiar with it now.

Dinner was at the same restaurant. People watching was interesting. Apparently a famous ex-tennis player came in with his family. Uncle Geoff recognized him. There was this other guy who looked soooo familiar! I swear he was in some movie I’ve seen before. Another old European guy walked into the restaurant with shades on, stayed for about 15 minutes then walked out of the restaurant with shades on, holding a briefcase. Aunty Kathleen thought he was a mafia guy.

As we were leaving the restaurant, we saw a Bugatti Veron. I had no idea what it was but Uncle Geoff was very excited so I took a photo of it. He told me that it costs a million pounds and it costs more money to make it than they sell it for.

The rest of my night was spent packing ☹

Calorie Count:
-Raspberries + chocolate covered cornflakes (breakfast)
-The best lobster spaghetti ever! (main/lunch)
-Profiteroles (dessert/lunch)
-Breaded mozzarella with garlic and anchovy sauce (starter/dinner)
-Veal with a mushroom cream sauce (main/dinner)
-Pannacotta (dessert/dinner)

Friday 3 July 2009

We headed straight to Bicester instead of Greenwich and thank goodness we did! I barely had enough time there! Made it there in a record 1.5hours.

We bought (all in pounds):
-4 Ralph Lauren shirts for me (24.99 * 3, 14.99 * 1)
-Ralph Lauren skirt for Mum (14.99)
-Ralph Lauren bikini for me (44.99)
-Dior pants for Natty (33)
-Smythson wallet for me (106)
-2 pairs of Tod’s shoes for Mum (116 * 2)
-2 pairs of Bally shoes for Mum (89, 59)
-Bally leather gloves for me (49)
-2 Zegna shirts for Dad (19 * 2)
-Zegna swimming trunks for Dad (25)

So much to see, so little time! Stupid jams on the M25 caused us to arrive home in double the time it took us to get there.

I tried on tons of Char’s clothes and ended up borrowing a dress that I really like. It’s cream with a super low back and brown beading in front.

Char, Aunty Kathleen, Sonia, Mum and I went to Chislehurst High Street for dinner. We had Chinese…I don’t know why I go to England to eat Chinese food.

Char and I met Jess, Chloe, Jabber, George and Marcus for drinks after. I’m so used to the Martini bar at Hyatt so pubs don’t quite cut it for me. I have no idea how people drink beer…it’s so gross! To avoid awkward silences, I ordered a glass of Bailey’s for myself. Every time there was an awkward pause, I took a sip of Bailey’s. Can you imagine how many sips I had to take?! Pubs close at 11.30pm so we were back home relatively early.

Calorie Count:
-Cheesedippers (breakfast)
-Club sandwich (lunch)
-Smoked salmon baguette + flapjack (tea)
-Fried rice (dinner)

Thursday 2 July 2009

Mum and I met Aunty Kim for lunch. It took us an age to get to Croydon. I was very very unwilling because I had planned on visiting the antique market at Greenwich. The only good thing that came out of it was that I got to eat my doughballs from Pizza Express.

I texted Sara to call me but she took too long to reply so I texted Jo. It was the funniest conversation…
Me: Hi Serena!
Jo: This is Jo.
Me: I’m just finishing up with lunch so I should be over really soon!
Jo: ???
Me: Hold on, let me walk outside the restaurant.
Then I explained that I needed saving from lunch so I needed some excuse to leave and meeting my old classmate was the perfect excuse.

Mum was being an absolute bitch the whole day. She was soo rude to me yet as usual I sat there and took it because I have to. When is she gonna learn that I’m not 5 anymore???

We ended up at The Glades again. We bought a ton of stuff at La Senza, which was super cheap! I got a bra for 4 pounds and three PJs for 5 pounds each. Then we went to top up our SIM cards at O2. Primark was another cheap shopping stop. I got 8 spags for 1 pound each.

After The Glades, we dropped our stuff back then went to visit Errol and Vanessa. They weren’t home but Sarah gave us Vanessa’s number. We then went to visit Serena and Aunty Pauloo. I remembered how to get to her street but I couldn’t remember which house it was. Mummy remembered which house it was but couldn’t remember how to get there. Thus we made a good team. We stayed to chat for a while.

Serena just finished her first year at med school in Cardiff, four more years to go. Her parents just bought a house up there for her. She updated me on most of our other classmates from Bromley High. They are all over the place, all doing well. Sachin is at Eltham College and he’s heading over to Australia in December for cricket. Boy, he is one good looking guy!

Mum and I went for dinner at Foxes after we left their house. Not as good as I remember but it was fine.

Calorie Count:
-Cheesedipper (breakfast)
-Blackberries & raspberries (breakfast)
-Doughballs (starter/lunch)
-Margarita pizza (main/lunch)
-Cream of asparagus soup (starter/dinner)
-Penne pasta with mushrooms in a creamy white wine sauce (main/dinner)
-Apple crumble with custard (dessert/dinner)

Wednesday 1 July 2009

Mum had the impression that I wanted to go to Lakeside but I had the impression that we were going to Bluewater. We ended up driving to Lakeside then turning back to Bluewater. It all sounds pretty quick but boy did it take long!

Every single thing I say gets me scolded by her. She asks if Angelica will like a pair of shorts then she scolds me when I give my opinion. Don’t ask if you don’t want to know what I have to say! She keeps complaining that she hasn’t bought anything for her other daughters but when I suggest something for Natty, I get a whole lecture about spending too much money. Apparently I keep complaining about her driving (which btw is very bad) but I only ever recall saying once that the car kept jerking (I was trying to hint that she is making the car jerk). She randomly said in the most bitchy tone, “I can’t wait till you start driving because you always criticize my driving”…when in the world did I do that?! Rachel did but I never did. The woman is practically forcing herself to get swine flu! She keeps thinking about it and she asks me 10 times a day if I’m ok! I lie down to take a short nap and she thinks I have swine flu because I’m lying down! She’s like imagining all sorts of things that are wrong with her like “I think I’m feeling hot”, “my throat is feeling sore” and “my body is aching”. Seriously, she is fine only when she stops thinking about it but once she starts, oh boy!

Anyway, she was such a bitch at Bluewater so we ended up going home in a real pissy mood. She called my dad to complain to him about me so I’m probably gonna get shit from him when I get back. She talks in Cantonese as if I don’t know what she’s saying…Hello?? I’m no fool! She twists words. Obviously she never ever does anything wrong right? It’s all Kimberley’s fault because she’s just such a horrid girl.

I’ve given Nandos 2 chances in 2 different countries and I still don’t see what’s the big deal…nothing special to me.

After my short nap, we met Uncle Brian, Aunty Theresa and Jeffery in London for dinner. You know how some restaurants display pictures of people who ate at their restaurant? Tony Blair, Goh Cheok Tong and Jackie Chan were some of the people in the pictures. One picture in particular caught my eye. Jimmy Choo eats there!!! I looked like an idiot taking a picture of Jimmy Choo’s picture. Aunty Theresa said that she’s seen him eating there a few times.

Calorie Count:
-Scrambled eggs (breakfast)
-Pita and hummus (starter/lunch)
-Chicken burger and coleslaw (main/lunch)
-Soup (starter/dinner)
-Lobster noodles, rice plus dishes (main/dinner)
-Fruit and some Chinese dessert (dessert/dinner)

Tuesday 30 June 2009

It was back to The Glades for the third time this trip. Mum needed to exchange some stuff from M&S. We didn’t stay for long because we had to pick Jo up from Chislehurst station. His train was delayed so I went to Josiah’s shop to pick up some fruit salad for Natty. I think the shopkeeper was stunned when I grabbed 10 packets of fruit salad plus a few yorkie’s for Daddy.

Mum left for London while I took Jo on a tour of my old neighbourhood. I showed him my old house plus a friend’s ginormous house and my old school. We then headed to Greenwich park and we had one heck of a time finding the car park. What kind of stupid car park puts a no entry sign at the entrance?!

On our way through the park we stopped at the Queen’s House. After walking through it, I still have no idea what it is. I highly doubt the Queen lived there…it was full of paintings and that’s about it.

I feel like studying in Singapore has caused me to lose interest in a lot of things. When I was younger, I was interested in much more than just shopping. Right now if you ask me what I enjoy doing, shopping is the only thing that comes to mind. What happened to my fascination with British history, especially the monarchy? What happened to my fascination with Greek mythology? What happened to my eagerness to try everything (I even joined cross country in Bromley High and for those who know me, you guys know that I can’t run to save my life)? Walking through this old house with all these old paintings and looking at the stories behind the paintings, it kinda made me miss my desire to learn. One day I will get it back and I will be interested in more than just shopping.

When Jo and I reached the bottom of the hill, we asked a random shopkeeper where the antique shops were. We were told that they all closed down and the antique market is only open on Thursdays and Fridays. Thank goodness I had a plan B.

We walked back up the darn hill and I almost melted because of the heat. I gave away my parking ticket because I overpaid for parking then I keyed in 58 Davies Street into the GPS. Grays is this antique mall that I googled the day before.

Jo and I were stuck in traffic for agesss…I really really don’t like London’s traffic! We picked Mum up first at China Town then we headed to Grays. OMG! The antiques there are sooooo expensive! But I guess that’s expected since it’s Central London.

Mum and I drove back early to cook. Aunty Kathleen’s brother came over for dinner and we all ate outside in the garden. After dinner, Aunty Kathleen took us to the house that Michael Jackson was supposed to stay in during his gig at the O2. It’s this huge ass mansion just down the road from her house. We couldn’t see much of the house because it’s surrounded by thick greenery. Apparently Chloe’s (Char’s friend) dad co-owns a company with the guy who owns the house that Michael Jackson rented. The guy didn’t even know Michael Jackson was renting his house till he read it in the papers. All he knew was that he was renting a house to someone for 1 million pounds and the identity of the person who was to stay in the house could not be disclosed.

Calorie Count:
-Sausages and bread with salmon spread (breakfast)
-Doughnut (tea)
-Steak, potatoes and veggies (dinner)
-Strawberry compote trifle (dessert)

Monday 29 June 2009

Mum and I went to The Glades after breakfast. I can’t stand how they make department stores soooo hot and stuffy. I felt so sick without air-con or windows in the sweltering heat. We bought undies at Marks & Sparks. Couldn’t bear to look at anything else because the heat just made me feel sick.

Popped home for a bit then it was back on the road again. We headed to London and instead of doing all those touristy things, I just took photos as we drove past. Kimberley Ong The Express Tourist!

I met Jo at Harrods to pass him his contacts. We had ice cream at Morelli’s. So far I have tried the berry pavlova, spaghetti ice and the I can’t remember what it’s called (vanilla, caramel and banana ice cream with bananas and chocolate sauce).

Jo had to rush off so I met Mum at the swimwear department. I looked around a lot and after lots and lots of looking at many many awful deals, I came across this awesome deal! Ok well it wasn’t THAT awesome but it was pretty great. I found this Juicy Couture coat that’s too big for me but oh so gorgeous! I felt like Grace Kelly when I put it on.

Mum got fined again for parking, this time she was only 5 minutes late. Maybe next time she’ll be on time…

The Harrods sale is generally still very expensive but if you look hard enough, you can find really cheap things. I found a bag reduced from 34.99 to 1.99 (it was kinda ugly though so I didn’t buy it). Dior wrap reduced to 39.99pounds. Mini Harrods beanie babies 50pence each (Mummy bought 30 of them to give away as party favours during Natty’s birthday).

VAT cheats my feelings…they make it seem like you’re getting the tax refund but the admin charge ends up being more than the refund!

Mum and I had dinner at the Rotisserie. It was expensive and it was good but not great.

Our trip home was the fastest trip I’ve taken so far. 45 minutes in the car. I am so so sick of sitting in the car!

Some of Aunty Kathleen’s friends were over when we got back. Apparently I used to know them but I can’t for the life of me remember who they are. We all sat on the patio eating fresh raspberries while the sprinkler was watering the plants, now that’s something you don’t get to do in Singapore.

Calorie Count:
-Jam and butter on toast (breakfast)
-Prawn mayo baguette (lunch)
-Ribs, beef, duck and potatoes (dinner)
-Raspberries (dessert)

Sunday 28 June 2009

I woke up super early but everyone else wasn’t up till much later. We only managed to leave the house at 11.30am because it took us forever to get the stupid electric car out of the driveway. No one could figure out how to put it on drive.

Traffic in London = NIGHTMARE!!! We only got to the Hyatt at like 1pm then it took us another hour plus to get out of London onto the A41. We only reached Bicester at 3.30pm! We were stuck in the car for 4 hours!!!

Bicester Village expanded, Kimberley gives a huge thumbs up! I wanted so much but obviously I didn’t get so much.
Lets see, I wanted:
-Silver Tod’s wallet (too expensive/125pounds I think)
-Jimmy Choo black satin shoes (no size/108pounds)
-Jimmy Choo gold sling backs (too expensive/165pounds)
-Ferragamo wedges (too expensive/125pounds)
-Limited edition Dior bag (got it! 108pounds)
-Gold Bally ballet flats (no size/59pounds)
-Black Bally court shoes (got it! 69pounds)
-Suede Bally walking flats (got it! 59pounds)
-CK bra (no size/10pounds)
-CK boxers (no size/10pounds)
-La Perla bra (no size/28pounds)
-Amanda Wakely dress (way too expensive but oh so gorgeous!/980pounds)
-Mini Mulberry bag (too expensive/297pounds)
-Ralph Lauren (no time to look)
-Burberry cashmere scarf (no time/39.99pounds)
-Burberry high waist skirt (only 49pounds but no size!)

Since we got there so late and shops close especially early on Sundays, I didn’t have time to look at soo many things!

It took us another 3 plus hours to get back home so that was almost 8 hours in the car altogether. 8 hours of Michael Jackson on Capital FM. This country pumpkin is all popped out!

Calorie Count:
-Butter on toast (breakfast)
-Salted beef sandwich (lunch)
-Dairy milk Mcflurry (dessert)
-Scone with jam and butter (tea)
-Ham, egg and chips (dinner)

Saturday 27 June 2009

THE FIRST DAY OF THE HARRODS SALE!!!

After breakfast, we drove to Aunty Kathleen’s house. She just renovated her house…the bathrooms are nicer than most hotel bathrooms! We dumped our suitcases there then drove to Central London. Quick lunch at CafĂ© Rouge then it was off to Harrods. I was so upset that I didn’t get to see Misha Barton (she opened the Harrods sale this year).

Charlotte and I spent ages getting lost in Harrods. It is the most disorganized department store in the world! Everywhere I walked, my head was spinning in ten different directions. There was so much to see! Chanel 30% off!!! Chanel never ever ever goes on sale!!! Not only was the classic I wanted not on sale but it was also not in stock! However, Marc by Marc Jacobs on sale in Harrods is almost as much as it is full price in Singapore. Michael Jackson music played non-stop in every room in Harrods. We were going bonkers! I didn’t even buy anything for myself! All I got was a present for Aunty Grace and a present for Natty.

We had tea at Morelli’s (the same gelato place we were at last time). I had forgotten how good the gelatos were but oh boy they are gooddd! I thought of Jo tagging me as the pink macaroon when I passed this shop outside Harrods. Turns out Aunty Kathleen, Mama and Kong had lunch there a short while ago.

Walking outside Harrods on the first day of the Harrods sale is like a frickin car show! Every expensive car you could ever think of was parked/driving around outside. I saw more Rolls Royce’s in that one day than I have in my entire life!

Next stop Harvey Nichols. I bought two Giorgio Armani lipsticks. For some reason I was under the impression that I paid $80 for them in Melbourne so I was elated that they were only S$40 plus. Later on I found out that I only paid Au$50 for them…what a joke!

Mum got fined because her parking coupon expired 10 minutes before she got to the car. She was peeved…

We walked around Selfridges after that. Way way more organized than Harrods! Again my head was spinning in so many different directions.

You’d never think the day would come when Kimberley Ong is sick of shopping…well, here it goes…I was soooo sick of shopping! The most fun shopping I had all day was at the baking department at Selfridges. OMG!!! They had baking tins for cupcakes in the shape of castles, boats, cars, etc…I’d never seen anything like it! Too bad they were sooo heavy and 30pounds each! I also found the heaviest frying pan in the entire world…I couldn’t lift it.

Dinner was at the Hyatt. For one of the most expensive Hyatt’s in the world, it looks like nothing on earth from the outside. Thank goodness the inside makes up for it.

Charlotte asked for her steak to be medium-well but it came our medium-rare. She said it tasted really good but Mum and Aunty Kathleen insisted that she ask them to take it back. The waiter took it back to the kitchen and he was sooo apologetic…I’d never seen anything like it. Everyone felt really bad. Charlotte then saw the chefs arguing which made everyone feel even worse! The waiter came back to tell us that we would all get complementary tea and coffee. At this point, I burst out laughing and Aunty Kathleen was gonna cry cos she felt so bad.

We made full use of the Molton Brown and soft hand towels in the Ladies.

On our way back to the car, we walked past this apartment on a very very expensive street in London. A house party like in the movies! This big bouncer was at the door with a guest list and one floor above you could see beautiful people sipping champagne on the balcony. Super high ceilings and towering pillars with the most beautiful mouldings on the walls. One day I’ll be there…

I followed Aunty Kathleen back for the night because I didn’t want to stay with Mum. I need my sleep! Between Party in the Park and the Harrods sale…traffic was an absolute nightmare! We were stuck at Park Lane for more than half an hour and it took us like 2 hours to get back.

Calorie Count:
-Pork pie (breakfast)
-Quiche lorraine with warm potato salad (lunch)
-Spaghetti ice (tea)
-Smoked duck with warm potato salad (starter/dinner)
-Mixed grill (main/dinner)

Friday 26 June 2009

I was surprisingly un-jet lagged. Woke up once at 5am to pee then I slept like a baby till 8am+.

Walked around The Glades after I lugged myself out of bed. Mum and I got a SIM card each at O2. H&M was having a sale so I bought a ton of stuff, well not a ton but a few pieces. Books were super cheap so I bought a Gordon Ramsey cookbook for 6.99pounds (it’s probably like S$50 in Kino). La Senza was also super cheap…5pounds for a bra and 99p for panties! The nighty that I bought for Sara and my leaving party was reduced to 5pounds…I was in Sara’s words “absolutely miffed”. Marks & Spencer was our last stop at The Glades. When I walked in, it felt like I was in heaven! Memories came flooding back and oh the food!!! 2 vanilla pods for 2.99pounds! The variety of baking ingredients that I can buy here but not in Singapore is astounding! We bought pork pies, pasta salad, sausage rolls, eclaires, etc…I <3 M&S food!!! So much to eat, so little time!

After we got back to Aunty Minerva’s house, she took us out to Sevenoaks High Street. Quaint little place and yet again, I was in heaven in the supermarkets. We visited Waitrose and Tesco and I wanted to buy soooo much but I restrained myself. I really really miss British supermarkets. You know those Penguin bars that cost me like Au$7…they were 50p at Tesco and Quavers! Oh how I love Quavers!! They are 19.7pence each for the pack of 12…we pay like Au$1.90 back in Melbourne!

We chucked all our shopping back at the house then we went out again to buy dinner. Chinese take-away…I go all the way to England and eat Chinese take-away :s

Calorie Count:
-Prawn mayo baguette (breakfast)
-Cocktail sausages, pork pie, sausage rolls and pasta salad (lunch)
-Rice and dishes (dinner)
-Eclaire (dessert)

Thursday 25 June 2009

I didn’t sleep at all on the plane. The idiot who designed the seats for the A380 is an idiot! My neck was bent the whole time so I had major neck aches! I did watch The Hannah Montana Movie (it was awesome!), Dragonball : Evolution (I liked it surprisingly) and Sunshine Cleaning (supposedly heartwarming but not my kinda show)

We arrived at Heathrow Airport. The landing and parking of the plane was delayed so we only managed to get out of the plane at like 7.30pm. Mummy and I went to get the rented car but they didn’t have the one she ordered. Thus I convinced her to take the Toyota hybrid car instead because it’s the only car that doesn’t need to pay the congestion charge in Central London.

We made our way to Sevenoaks and stopped at this random pub along the road. Uncle Victor came to pick us up from there. His new house is GORGEOUS!!! 6 bedrooms all with attached bathrooms, a cinema room, conservatory, study, living, dining, underground wine cellar, huge kitchen ♥ with a laundry room that is as big as my bedroom in Singapore and separate living quarters for the help or guests.

Just before we went to bed, we found out Michael Jackson died. What a shocker…

I am so glad I get my own room so I don’t need to use the earplugs Angelica gave me.

XOXO
